LLAETHLIW ESTATE VINEYARD
Llaethliw Estate Vineyard is a family run vineyard in Ceredigion. The vineyard is managed by Jac Teifi Evans, the son of Siw and Richard Evans. It was planted in 2009 and has 6500 vines consisting of Solaris, Orion, Rondo and Regent. A further 10000 vines will be planted in 2014. The vineyard is adjacent to the main house and offers South East and Southerly facing slopes. Due to the proximity to the sea, the vineyard has a mild climate and borders the early growing coastal belt.
Llaethliw Estate dates back to 1570 and has a rich history. It formed part of the Llanerchaeron Estate and was bequeathed to a family member. It was once home to the last person to survive a Dual in Wales under suspicious circumstances. Tales of Dylan Thomas and the Aeron Valley suggest that the name Llaethliw (Colour of Milk) influenced Dylan in his choice of the ‘Under Milk Wood’ title. The only boat to be built in Cardigan Bay with a Welsh name was named from this estate “Llaethliw”.
